Just about two months ago (March 4) we wrote about how the Dare County Odyssey of the Mind kids dominated the regional competition. Not content with just showing how bright they are to the local schools, they went on to the state finals and rocked the competition there as well.
Which is why, May 28-31 they will be at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa for the Odyssey of the Mind 2014 World Finals
Three teams are going--two from Kitty Hawk Elementary and one from First Flight Middle School.
ItâåÛåªs not cheap going to Ames, IA so there are a series of fundraisers on tap. ThereâåÛåªs an auction tomorrow night at Trio in Kitty Hawk from 5-9 p.m. This Saturday the kids are selling Krispy Kreme donuts at the entrance to Walmart at $7.00 a box, and there will probably be more fundraisers as the month goes on.
The Odyssey of the Mind is a remarkable program that gets kids thinking logically and imaginatively about problem-solving. It is wonderful watching them push to the limits of what their minds will let them accomplish and see how proud they are of their abilities.
