Soccer, Theatre and a Good Cause on the Outer Banks

An amazing weekend on the Outer Banks.

The sad news--although not entirely sad, is the First Flight High School menâåÛåªs soccer team finished the year at 23-1 losing to Salisbury 2-1 in the State Finals on Saturday. An amazing run, an amazing feat and truly something to be celebrated even if the final game was a disappointment.

A lot of fun stuff happening over the weekend.

The First Flight High School production of Alice in Wonderland hit the stage on Thursday evening. An extraordinarily well done production, from Maiah Tabb in the lead as Alice to the 4th mouse, no one broke character, the set designs were engaging and the Saturday matinee performance in particular, filled with kids was magic.

Friday night was the Veterans Weekend Celebration at Roanoke Island Festival Park. In conjunction with the Veterans Writing Project, the Dare County Arts Council sponsored an evening of music and readings. Music provided by OcracokeâåÛåªs Molasses Creek and NC Poet Laureate Joseph Bathanti was engaging, humorous and profound reading his poetry.

Saturday and Sunday was given over to the Veterans Writing Project with Ron Capps. A Washington, DC based organization, their mission is to work with military veterans to help them express what they have seen and felt in writing.
