Had an amazing time at the Red Nose Wine Festival today in Manteo. Yes it rained a bit, but not right away and only for a little while . . . although it did rain very hard when the skies opened up.
But it was a fun day. Some great NC wines were being poured. Childress Vineyards in particular seems to really be getting things right--their Cab Franc in particular is a wine worth trying. Sanctuary Vineyards was there as well--about as local as you can get, just up the road there at the Cotton Gin. John Wright, vineyard manager has been steadily improving his wines and they are definitely worth trying.
The music was great--Joe Mapp and the Coordinates blew me away and it was all for a good cause.
The Outer Banks Relief Foundation has given away over $850,000 in direct aid to families in need over the past eight years. ItâåÛåªs money thatâåÛåªs provided to help a family get back on their feet when the unpredictable happens. The amounts given are relatively small--$500 to $3000--but to the people in need its a gift of extraordinary generosity.
