The Outer Banks Charity Classic was held this weekend. It's a tennis tournament they've been doing it for 12 years now, so I suppose the official name is the 12th Annunal Charity Classic.
The tournament is a fundraiser for Dare County Home and Hospice and over the years it has been tremendously successful. Although Dare County Home and Hospice is a county agency there is an ongoing need for funding. The agency offers services to everyone regardless of their ability to pay, and the quality of service has consistently been rated outstanding.
The tournament, though, is about tennis. It's for a good cause, but it's still about tennis and the level of play is surprisingly good. And a lot of fun.
The fun part is something that really seems to show through. It is competitive but the competitors still seem find time to laugh about the games and remember that they are supposed to be having fun.
The tournaments were held at two area tennis clubs-Westside Athletic Club at Kilmarlic in Powells Point and Duck Woods Country Club in Southern Shores.
